MADARIPUR: Miscreants hacked Kalkini Municipality Mayor Enayet Hossain Hawlader, at his residence in Madaripur district, leaving him critically injured at the early hours of Sunday (July 15).

Mayor Enayet Hossain Hawlader, 35, was whisked-off to the upazila health complex and given initial treatment following the incident.

Police and local sources said that a group of some 10-12 masked men shattered the gate at the backyard and entered inside the mayor’s residence around 1:30am.

Afterwards, they hit the mayor with a machete after cracking a window of his living room.

At one stage, the mayor opened fire by his short-gun.

The miscreants fled away after firing several rounds of bullet and exploding bomb.   

“The attack was carried out targeting to kill me,” said Mayor Enayet Hossain Hawlader.

On information, higher official of police have visited the spot, Kalkini Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kripa Sindhu Bala told Banglanews.

“Drives are on to nab the attackers,” he added.
