Fakhrul calls for meaningful election thru dialogue BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a meeting in Thakurgaon

THAKURGAON: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the government to make the upcoming national election meaningful through discussion.

His party wants to join the general election but people’s right to vote safely must be restored first, he added.

The senior BNP leader was addressing an extended party meeting held at Hawladar community center in Thakurgaon on Monday noon (July 16).

Expressing his full support to quota reform movement, he demanded immediate release of the detained students and teachers of the movement.

Fakhrul also raised question about a foreign force that is secretly driving the ruling Awami League and country.

“The government is oppressing those who wants freedom of expression which is a right in a democratic country. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been imprisoned in a false case so that government can cling on to power. This government is completely isolated from the people,” he said.

Fakrul also said, “This is not the Awami League we knew. We have seen AL before and after the liberation war. They fought against the oppressor to establish democracy and people’s rights. But today’s AL has become the oppressor itself.”
