DHAKA: A Dhaka court extended till July 24 the bail of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

Khaleda Zia wasn’t produced before the court on Tuesday due to her illness.

On behalf of her, her lawyers pleaded for extending the bail.

Judge Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Dhaka special judge court-5 installed in Bakshibazar granted the time extension Tuesday (July 17).

On February 1, the same court installed at the prison department ground in Bakshibazar of old Dhaka granted Khaleda Zia bail till February 25 and later extended it.

Khaleda Zia was convicted in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case and sent to jail on February 8.

However, Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the graft case against Khaleda Zia and three others with Tejgaon police station on August 8, 2011 for embezzling Tk3.15 crore from Zia Charitable Trust.
