NARAIL: A Narail court rejected bail plea of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a defamation case.
Narail Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Jahidul Azad rejected the plea Tuesday (July 17).
On July 2, Md Jahidul Azad fixed July 17 for a hearing on the bail petition, after receiving arguments from several pro-BNP lawyers including Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder.
According to the case statement, Khaleda Zia questioned the actual number of Liberation War martyrs at a discussion held in Dhaka, which was broadcast in media on December 21, 2015.
Besides, she made objectionable remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
On December 24, 2015, one Raihan Faruqi Imam from Chapail village under Naragati thana, filed a defamation case against the BNP Chairperson in Narail court.
On July 25, 2016, the court summoned her.
On August 23, 2016, the court ordered her to appear before the court.
Meanwhile, another defamation cases was filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a Narail court on Dec 29, 2015.
