DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia filed a bail petition with High Court in a case filed under Special Powers Act for vandalizing vehicles in Chouddagram upazila of Cumilla on February 3, 2015.

The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mujibur Rahman is likely to hear bail petition.

Deputy Attorney General of the concerned bench Md. Bashir Ullah told Banglanews that a Cumilla court adjourned the bail petition hearing till August 8 after showing her arrested in the case on July 1.

Later, Khaleda Zia sought bail in this case from High Court. This petition is on today’s court agenda, he added.

Earlier, Khaleda Zia filed a petition with High Court seeking cancellation of this case, which is still pending.

On February 8, High Court sentenced five years’ imprisonment to Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. She was sent to Dhaka central jail following the verdict.

Since then, she is staying in jail.
