Quota leader Rashed sent to jail after remand

DHAKA: A Dhaka court sent Rashed Khan, joint convener of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council, to jail after placing him on remand in two separate cases filed with Shahbagh Police Station.

Police on Wednesday (July 18) filed a petition asking for imprisonment of Rashed Khan until investigation is over under Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka following 15 days of remand in 2 phases of the 3 cases.

On July 1, detectives arrested Rashed from Mirpur area of the city. 

Out of the 2 cases, one was filed under ICT Act on charge of uploading a derogatory post on facebook against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Police also showed Rashed arrested in another case filed over vandalizing the house of Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor M Akhtaruzzaman on April 9.

On April 10, SM Kamrul Ahsan, ‘Senior Security Officer’ of DU filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station.
