BNP wants 'nationalist' election commission: Quader Obaidul Quader speaking to reporters

DHAKA: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader remarked that BNP wants 'Nationalist Election Commission' to win in the next election.

The minister told reporters, at 11am, on Friday (July 20) in response to a question while inspecting preparatory work of a public reception program for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.

Premier Sheikh Hasina will be conferred with Doctor of Literature (DLitt) degree from Kazi Nazrul University (KNU) of India for her glorious achievements on Saturday (July 21).

Obaidul Quader, also, General Secretary of ruling Awami League said “We didn’t say, we don’t want election with participation of all parties. What would we do, if BNP doesn’t join election willingly? Every political party has right to join election. It’s not out of mercy, or favoritism of the government. Fair elections take place in city corporations now. Who obstructs them?

He said, “Why dialogue, Election Commission (EC) will conduct election. Election will be fair when all parties join it. At that time, government will cooperate with them (EC). Government will perform only routine work, no significant work. Like other democratic countries, Bangladesh will conduct such an election.”

Obaidul Quader said, “BNP wants Nationalist Election Commission. They want surety of victory in polls, only then they will participate in polls. BNP’s position, because of negative politics, is downwards. Only God knows best when success will come.”
