DHAKA: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said the upcoming national parliamentary polls will be held as per the constitutional rules, not the ‘terms’ set by anybody.
He made the remark, in wake of a comment of pro-BNP ex teacher of Dhaka University (DU) Prof Dr Emajuddin Ahmed placing four conditions before the government so that BNP would join the elections.
The conditions include release of convicted BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
“The next polls won’t be held abiding by ‘terms’ of anyone. It will be held as per the constitution. The government thinks no dialogue is a necessity in this regard,” said Quader.
Obaidul Quader, also the minister for road transport & bridges, was addressing the media at the conference room of his ministry around 11:15am Sunday (July 22).
However, the minister further said that he smells conspiracy and sabotage from BNP to foil the upcoming polls.
