Fakhrul demands arrest of Mahmudur’s attackers

DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir demanded immediate arrest of those responsible for carrying out a vicious attack on Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman in Kushtia on Sunday afternoon (July 22).

The senior BNP leader made the demand at a press conference in city’s Naya Paltan party office on Sunday evening (July 22).

Fakhrul said Mahmudur was confined inside courtroom by BCL men after court had granted him bail in the case. When Mahmudur asked the court for security, court directed police but the officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station refused to come to court premises and told Mahmudur Rahman to get out of courtroom.

He was attacked by so-called BCL terrorists as soon as he got out. He sustained head injuries and started bleeding. Mahmudur’s associates have also been hurt in the attack. The government has failed to provide security to him, Fakhrul added.

Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman sustained injuries as members of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) allegedly attacked him in a court premise in the district on Sunday (July 22) after the court granted bail to him in a case filed for making derogatory comments against Bangabandhu and Hasina.
