Dispose of Khaleda’s bail plea in Comilla by Jul 26: HC

DHAKA: The High Court ordered to settle the bail petition of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia by July 26, in a case filed over detonating petrol bomb in an anti-government protest on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Chauddagram of Comilla. 

An HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mojibur Rahman passed the order Monday (July 23).

Khandaker Mahbub Hossain moved for the petitioner while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state, at the courtroom.

A petition was filed with the High Court on behalf Khaleda Zia seeking bail for her after a Comilla court upheld till August 8 the hearing on the plea and showing her arrested on July 1. 
 
Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah confirmed the matter to Banglanews on July 18.

Earlier on May 28, the High Court granted bail for six months to BNP chief Khaleda Zia in two cases filed in Comilla.

Later, the state filed a petition with the Supreme Court Appellate Division seeking a stay on the bail order.
 
During the BNP-led alliance's movement on February 3 in 2015, eight people were killed and 20 others injured as miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a bus at Jogmohanpur in Chouddagram.

Two cases were filed against Khaleda following the incident.
