DHAKA: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader held a meeting with leaders of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) in Dhaka on Tuesday (July 24).
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, went to CPB headquarters around 11:00am to hold talks with CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim and General Secretary Shah Alam.
According AL and CPB sources, the leaders discussed current political situation, quota reform movement and upcoming national election.
Later in the day, Quader told reporters that it was a courtesy call and had nothing to do with politics.
When asked about the matter, CPB General Secretary Shah Alam said Quader paid a sudden visit to our office. He drank tea with us, inquired private matters and left.
However another CPB source said they also held talks on current political scenario and upcoming election. CPB leaders also said that they are not in the power games abut trying to create an alternative leftist force in the country.
On July 18, a total of 8 leftist parties including Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Socialist Party of Bangladesh (BASOD) and six others leftist parties formed Left Democratic Alliance. Quader’s meeting came after the latest move of the leftist parties.
