DHAKA: Former Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Kalparanjan Chakma passed away at the age of 98 on Wednesday (July 25).
He breathed his last at a hospital in Dhaka around 12:00pm after long sufferings of old age-associated diseases.
Earlier on June 29, Kalparanjan Chakma, father of two sons and two daughters, was admitted to Dhaka Community Medical College and Hospital in Moghbazar due to illness.
In a message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at his death and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
AL general secretary Obaidul Quader, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and other leaders also expressed deep shock at his death.
Kalparanjan Chakma was elected as member of the parliament from Khagrachhari constituency in 1991 and 96. Later on July 15 in 1998, he was appointed as full minister of CHT affairs Ministry as per the terms of Hill Tracts Peace Accord. He also served as the president of Khagrachhari district AL.
Kalparanjan Chakma’s son-in-law Mintu Bikash Chakma told Banglanews that his funeral will be held at Rangamati Bon Bihar on Thursday (July 25).
