DHAKA: Newly elected mayor of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) and councilors took oath of office on Thursday (July 26).
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina administered the oath to GCC Mayor Md. Jahangir Alam while the councilors took oath from Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Engineer Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain at a program in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
After they sworn in, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told them, “You are the elected representatives of your people and you must serve them to earn their trust.”
Senior secretary of the Local Government Division Jafar Ahmed Khan conducted the oath taking ceremony.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader and local political leaders of Gazipur were present on the occasion.
GCC elections held on June 26. Ruling AL candidate Md. Jahangir Alam won the mayoral race by defeating BNP contender Hasanuddin Sarker by a landslide. Moreover, among the 57 councilors post of GCC, AL candidates won 37 wards, BNP won 12, Jatiya Party won two and one councilor elected uncontested earlier.
