DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said it has been proved again that a free and fair election is not possible to be held under the current government and Election Commission (EC).
He made the remarks at a press conference in party’s Naya Paltan party office on Tuesday (July 31).
Fakhrul said, “The ruling party committed unlimited vote rigging and forcible occupation in city corporation election of Rajshahi, Barisal and Sylhet that held yesterday. The Election Commission proved again their utter failure to hold a free election.”
BNP is rejecting the election outcome of Rajshahi and Barisal with abomination as actual elections were not held in there. We are demanding reelection. Moreover, a country wide demonstration will be staged protesting the vote rigging, he said.
The senior BNP leader also claimed that vote rigging also took place in Sylhet city polls because BNP mayor candidate Ariful is supposed to win by a landslide.
