We need guardians’ help for peace: Quader

DHAKA: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has sought the assistance of guardians to bring back the agitating students from streets.

“We need the help of guardians in bringing back students to classrooms and to reinstate peace,” he said.

Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, made the call at a press conference after a secretary level meeting in party’s Dhanmondi political office on Saturday (August 4).

Quader also alleged that political infiltrators are trying to gain advantage from the movement and the intelligence agencies are observing their activities.

In response to a question about the lack of public transport on roads, he said, “Drivers are afraid to run vehicles on roads though we are pushing them for it.”

The minister also said that students’ demands are reasonable and implementation is underway. The government fully supports their movement but also worried about the safety of the agitators as political infiltration has been made.

The massive student protest broke out across the country for road safety following the death of two college students by a bus on Airport road of Dhaka.

The fatal road crash happened earlier on Sunday and students of different schools and colleges have been staging demonstration since in demand of safe roads. In the past few days, agitating students have been disciplining vehicles and checking driving licenses on the streets across the country. They have also put forward a list of nine-point demand asking government to meet it as soon as possible.
