DHAKA: The High Court on Monday (August 6) granted BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia bail for six months in an arson case, filed under Special Powers Act in Comilla in 2015.

An HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mojibur Rahman passed the order.

Lawyer Khandaker Mahbub Hossain moved for Khaleda Zia while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state.

Khaleda Zia earlier filed an appeal with the HC on July 29 challenging the order of a Comilla court that rejecter her bail.

During the BNP-led alliance's movement on February 3 in 2015, eight people were killed and 20 others injured as miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a bus at Jogmohanpur in Chouddagram.

Two cases were filed against Khaleda following the incident.

On February 8 this year, Khaleda was sent to jail after a special court sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
