HC grants 6 months’ bail to Khaleda in Narail case

DHAKA:  The High Court has granted bail for six months to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a defamation case filed in Narail.

The HC bench of Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz and Justice Kashefa Hossain delivered the verdict on Monday (August 13).

Senior advocate AJ Mohammad Ali moved for Khaleda Zia.

Earlier, Judge of District and Sessions Judge Court of Narail rejected bail on August 5.

As per prosecution, Khaleda Zia questioned the actual number of Liberation War martyrs at a discussion held in Dhaka, which was broadcast in media on December 21, 2015.

Besides, she made objectionable remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

On December 24, 2015, Raihan Faruqi Imam, hailed from Chapail village under Naragati Police Station, filed a defamation case against BNP Chairperson in Narail court in this regard.

On July 25, 2016, the court summoned her.

On August 23, 2016, the court ordered BNP Chairperson to appear in court.
