Rizvi leads sudden procession for Khaleda’s release BNP hols rally in city's Banani area

DHAKA: BNP staged a sudden rally in the capital to press home the party’s demands for immediate release of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail and her better treatment.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi led the rally, around 9:15 am, on Friday (August 24).

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, “The case in which Khaleda Zia was jailed, she has got bail in that. She is now kept in custody illegally in a number of unfounded cases out of political jealousy."

Local BNP men, Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal participated in the rally as it began from Kemal Ataturk Avenue and ended at Banani's Kakoli Point.

On February 8, High Court sentenced five years’ imprisonment to Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. She was sent to Old Central Jail following the verdict.

Since then, she has been in jail.
