DHAKA: BNP held a sudden rally in the capital to press home the party’s demands for immediate release of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail and her better treatment.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi led the rally, around 8 am, on Monday (August 27).
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, “Khaleda Zia is kept in custody illegally. She has to be released unconditionally soon. Conspiracy against Tarique Rahman, acting chairman of the BNP, must be stopped. Otherwise, tough movement will be launched against this illegal government.”
BNP men, Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal participated in the rally as it began from New Gate of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and ended at Chankharpul intersection in the capital
On February 8, High Court sentenced five years’ imprisonment to Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. She was sent to Dhaka central jail following the verdict.
Since then, she has been in jail.
