Player Of the Match: Rilee Rossouw
In a gross mismatch of quality and experience, South Africa firing in all cylinders not only shamed Bangladesh by their biggest T20 International defeat but clinically exposed the cricket skeleton.
Bangladesh proved novice against quality pace and leg spin.
Batting first Rilee Rossouw (109 in 56 balls) and Quinton de Kock (63/ 38 balls) literally toyed with Bangladesh inept bowling , Protean finished at 205/5 .It could be 225-230 had not the lost their way a bit in the last 5 overs scoring only 29 and losing 3 wickets in the process . Bangladesh got swept away by pace and bounce of Anrich Nortje (4/10) and leg spin of Tabraiz Shamsi (3/10).
Less informed Bangladeshi cricket admirers fancied Bangladesh winning against strong South Africa. But we knew against very strong South Africa, the inherent weakness of the least prepared novice Bangladesh will be nakedly exposed.
Taskin could create a little sensation taking the wicket of Protean Captain Tenda Bavuma in his first over. But after that it was all Rossouw and de Kock. They brutally punished listless Bangladesh attack setting a new record of South Africa (163 in the 2nd wicket partnership).
Rossouw in his 56 balls 109 struck 7 fours and 8 sixes. Quinton de Kock also smashed 7 fours and 3 sixes. Instead of rain raining it was rain of fours and sixes that adorable Bangladeshi fans witness against their team. While his mates were being hammered Shakib kept himself hiding from the onslaught. South Africa should have scored 225-230. But in the last 5 overs Bangladeshi bowlers tightening the screw restricted them to 205/5.
Bangladesh in reply simply got blown away by the lightening pace of Anrich Nortje (4/10) and quality leg spin of Tabraiz Shamsi (3/20). Only Litton Das scoring 34 looked like a batsman. Bangladeshis neither have skills playing quality pace nor leg spin. The hard reality was cruelly exposed again as Bangladesh got bundled out for 101.
Bangladesh absorbed the worst ever defeat in T20 international. It has to be seen whether it can recover from a such battering in 3 days when they have to encounter Zimbabwe at Brisbane. Not only the players the team think tank owes an explanation. The huge fan following of Bangladesh got shocked.
