He and his teammates have been celebrated immensely since defeating France in Doha on Sunday, with the nation being in a state of celebration ever since.
Along with the World Cup trophy, Messi also collected the Golden Ball for being the tournament’s best player, and the accolades are set to continue, according to reports.
The newspaper El Financiero have stated that the Central Bank of Argentina are considering having the former Barcelona star be the new star of the nation’s banknotes.
Further information from El Cronista has emerged, which says that Messi would be immortalised on the country’s 1000 peso note. This is because the number begins with a “10”, which refernences Messi’s iconic shirt number for La Albiceleste.
The back of note would display the rest of the World Cup squad, which is referred to as “La “La Scaloneta”, named after head coach Lionel Scaloni.
