England Wrapped Up the series 2-0
Player of the Match: Jason Roy
Flamboyant England exploding with the bat posted an imposing 326/7 having asked to bat on a tricky and tacky wicket. Then with a very incisive bowling attack English Lions clinically dispatched team tigers crashing them to 194 all out in 44.4 overs. Bangladesh got crashed losing the match by 132 Runs. England wrapped up the three matches ODI series 2-0 with a match to spare. Another comprehensive series whitewash is now looming for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh appeared with unchanged XI, while England changing its winning combination brought in Sam Curran in place of Chris Oakes and Saqib Mahmood resting Jofra Archer.
Few people will dispute decision of Tamim Iqbal opting to bat after winning the toss. It was do or die match for Bangladesh. Giving England first use of the wicket Bangladesh ran the risk of visitors putting up a massive target and chasing against a very potent English attack bolstered with the inclusion of a high quality seaming left hand all-rounder.
Bangladesh could start in a positive note with Taskin removing Phil Salt early. But Jason Roy was in business from the very outset punishing Bangladesh bowlers with eye catching stroke play. First match centurion David Malan could be sent back early by Miraj. James Vince was picked up by Taijul. England was 3/96 by the 21st overs. But then Roy and his captain ruthlessly punished Bangladesh bowling putting together 112 runs 4th wicket partnership. Buttler struck 5 fours and 2 massive sixes in his 64 balls 76 before being send back by Miraj taking a blinder of his own bowling. Will Jack could not trouble much. But Bangladesh was bruised, battered and humiliated by Roy and Moeen Ali 52 runs 6th wicket partnership in no time. Roy scored 132 punctuated with 18 fours and 1 six. Moeen was more lethal scoring 42 in 35 deliveries. Coming to bat on a solid platform Sam Curran toyed with Bangladesh attack scoring unbeaten 33 in only 19 deliveries. England scored massive 326/7 in allotted overs.
Bangladesh reply was struck with Sam Curran tsunami early on. Left arm quality seamer removed Litton and Shanto in his very first over before either could open the account. Then in his second over he removed Mushfique appearing well past his prime. Bangladesh was tottering at 9/3. Tamim and Shakib did some repair works putting together slow but steady 59 runs 4th wicket partnership. But then Bangladesh ran way behind required soring rate. Tamim labored for his 65 balls 35. Shakib was more enterprising in his 69 balls 58. Apart from them Mahmudullah Riad could produce 32. Bangladesh once again failed to variation and skills of leg spinner Adil Rashid taking 4/45 in his allotted overs. Climbing the sky scrapper that England constructed was way above Bangladesh reach. They failed to even bat their quota of overs getting bundled out for 194 in 44.4 Overs. Sam Curran spell was also match defining. He took 4/29 in his 6.4 overs. Bangladesh lost by massive 132 runs.
Bruised and battered Bangladesh will now travel to port city Chattogram with the prospect of yet another series whitewash looming. Hope Bangladesh had good measure of their competence and capability tested against a very professional and skillful Bangladesh. Bangladesh never looked competitive in the match. Bowled and fielded poorly, batted like novice against quality bowling attack. Perhaps Haturasinghe realized the challenges he has on his plate in his hot second stint as head coach.
