Winning the first and the third ODI of the three matches T20 series by new milestones (183 runs and 10 wickets) Bangladesh Cricket team on a new paradigm earned yet another ODI series win.
The series white wash could not be achieved as the match was rain ruined after Bangladesh put up 349 /6 new milestone in ODI. Ireland choosing to bat yesterday was crashed to 101 all out by the three-prong pace attack of Hasan Mahmood (5/32), Taskin Ahmed (3/26) and Ebadat Hossain (2/29). Litton (50*) and Tamim (41*) raced to 10 wickets victory in 13.1 Overs.
World cricket knows Bangladesh in ODI cricket is a hard nut to crack. It is almost invincible at home. After winning 7 ODI series on a trot at home it lost a series only the other day to reigning world Champions England (1-2). That Bangladesh will easily win the series was always on the card. But the manner in which Ireland was made to look pretty ordinary novice is a great achievement of Bangladesh. Nazmul Shanto , Litton K Das, Mushfiqur Rahim , Shakib Al Hasan and even debutant Towhid Hridoy batted with gay abandon. Captain Tamim joined the party in the last ODI. None of the Irish bowlers could make any impression. On the same wickets Bangladesh bowlers Taskin, Hasan Mahmood, Ebadad Hossain ran riot. Bangladesh is known for its superior spin skills. Wickets are usually slow and low. But here wickets had pace and bounce. Impressive Bangladeshi pacers bowling at pace on the right length and line pulverized Irish batsmen to the pulp. Shakib and co hardly required to do much.
The series witnessed milestones created one after another. Bangladesh set the highest ODI score in the first match 338 only to be broken in the second scoring 349 within two days. Bangladesh victory by 183 in the first match was by the highest margin. Towhid Hridoy scoring 92 in the first match became the highest scorer on ODI debut for Bangladesh. Peerless Shakib Al Hasan joined the elite club of Snath Jayasuriya and Shahid Khan Afridi as allrounders taking over 300 wickets and scoring 7000 ODI runs. Mushfique scoring unbeaten 100 in the second match in 60 balls became the quickest doing that for Bangladesh. Finally in the 3rd ODI Bangladesh for the first time won an ODI by 10 wickets. The achievement of this series will remain a source of inspiration in Bangladesh sports arena for days to come.
This Bangladesh team – a combination of youth and veteran is now a changed unit. The changed can do attitude and clinical application has created winning momentum. If can be nursed with a vision this team will earn greater glory in not-too-distant future. We must note that despite possessing potential senior team has not won any major global tournament yet. The ICC World Cup 2023 scheduled to be held in India from October 2023 will be one last event for the golden generation Shakib, Tamim, Mushfique and Mahmudullah appearing together with a bunch of effervescent and enigmatic youngsters.
