Bashundhara Kings end BPL with win over rivals Abahani

The four-time Bangladesh Premier League champions Bashundhara Kings ended the ongoing BPL 2022-23 with a hard-fought 1-0 goal win over Abahani Ltd Dhaka in their second-leg home match at the crowded-packed Bashundhara Kings Arena in the capital on Friday.

Kings earlier confirmed their historical fourth consecutive BPL title by beating Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd by 6-4 goals with three-match to spare at the same venue in May. So, the day's result made no impact on the leaderboard.

Kings became the first club to achieve this feat in the 75-year history of domestic football in Bangladesh since its beginning in 1948 during the regime of Pakistan one year after the partition.
However, Brazilian forward Dorielton Gomes scored the match-winner from a rebound for the hosts in the 21st minute. Both sides failed to extend the margin the rest of the time.

The match was played in flood-lights. Kings were awarded with the BPL trophy in a prize giving ceremony after the match.

In the day's other matches, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd beat meet Azampur Football Club Uttara by 3-1 goals at  the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh and Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd beat Fortis FC Ltd by 1-0 at Muktijuddho Sriti Stadium in Rajshahi.

In Mymensingh, Saint Vincentian forward Cornelius Stewart, forward Mannaf Rabby and Uzbek midfielder Nodirbek Mavlonov scored a each for Sheikh Jamal in the  59th, 63rd and 84th minutes while forward Naim Uddin scored for Azampur FC in the 70th minute.

In Rajshahi, Uzbek midfielder Muzaffar Muzaffarov scored the match winner for Mohammedan SC in the 31st minute.
