Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra observes National Mourning Day

The country’s top-tier football club Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd observed the National Mourning Day on Tuesday, commemorating the 48th anniversary of the martyrdom of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The club is named after Sheikh Russel, the youngest child Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangamata Sheikh Fojilatunnesa Mujib, and younger brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Bashundhara Group Managing Director and Sheikh Russel’s Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir took initiatives to observe this day through various programs.

Earlier this morning, Sheikh Russel directors, members and officials paid homage placing floral wreaths at the shrines of martyrs at Banani graveyard. The club officials offered Fateha and munajat seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage.

Then, the club arranged a milad and doa mahfil for eternal peace of the departed souls and distributed tabarak among poor and needy people at Banani graveyard mosque.

The club also arranged Quran Khwani, dua mahfil and feed orphans  at their premises Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Club Complex in Bashundhara Residential Area here.

Sheikh Russel’s finance director Md Fakhruddin and the club’s other directors, permanent members, life-time members and officials were present during the program.

“Today is National Mourning Day. As per instructions from Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd Bashundhara Group Managing Director and Sheikh Russel’s Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd are observing this day with due solemnity,” Fakhruddin told the reporters.  

 “We prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls of Bangabandhu, Bangamata, Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russel and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage,” he ended.
At the fateful dawn of August 15 in 1975, a group of disgruntled army officers assassinated the country’s undaunted leader Bangabandhu Bangabandhu and most of his family members

Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russel, Sultana Kamal and Rosy Jamal, brother Sheikh Naser, Abdur Rab Serniabat, Sheikh Fazlul Haq Moni, Arzu Moni, Baby Serniabat, Sukanta Babu, Arif and Abdul Nayeem Khan Rintu were killed along with Bangabandhu.  

The assassination is described as the ugliest chapter of the nation's history. Bangabandhu’s two daughters, Sheikh Hasina, who is now prime minister, and Sheikh Rehana escaped the planned assassination as they were abroad.
