Lionel Messi bagged two assists as Inter Miami triumphed over Los Angeles FC with a score of 3-1, extending their unbeaten streak to an impressive 11 games.
Miami achieved their best-ever streak under the guidance of Lionel Messi who was once again superb on Sunday, 3 September. Messi joined the team in July and has since contributed significantly to their success.
The goals for Inter Miami were netted by Facundo Farias, Jordi Alba, and Leonardo Campana, with Messi providing two crucial assists. This victory marks a significant improvement for the team, which now boasts 10 victories and a single draw across all competitions since Messi's debut on July 21st. This successful streak also includes a Leagues Cup title won against Nashville SC on August 19th.
Despite a scoreless draw against Nashville earlier in the week, Inter Miami bounced back with a strong performance against LAFC. The team, currently holding the 14th position in the league with 7 wins, 4 draws, and 14 losses, showed great resilience and determination.
LAFC, the reigning MLS Cup champions, managed to avoid a shutout with a last-minute goal by Ryan Hollingshead. However, their early attempts at securing a lead were thwarted by Inter Miami's goalkeeper, Drake Callender, who made a crucial save in the 11th minute.
Inter Miami took the lead in the 14th minute with a goal from Farias, his first for the club. Messi had a chance to score in the 38th minute but was denied by LAFC's goalkeeper, John McCarthy. However, Messi's long through ball in the 51st minute set up Alba for the second goal, and he later assisted Campana in sealing the victory.
The match was also notable for the debut of all six of Inter Miami's summer signings: Messi, Farias, Tomas Aviles, Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Diego Gomez. The game attracted a host of celebrities, including Prince Harry, actors Owen Wilson and Leonardo DiCaprio, singer Selena Gomez, and comedian Will Ferrell, a member of the LAFC ownership group.
