Indian Football Association (IFA), the football association of West Bengal, invited Bashundhara Kings to co-host the next edition of the prestigious IFA Shield along with Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
IFA Secretary Anirban Dutta met with Bangladesh Football Federation Vice-president and Kings President Imrul Hassan at his office on Monday.
The association has been in correspondence with the Bangladesh giants for the last few months. As per their proposal, around seven or eight teams including three or four teams from Bangladesh will compete in the event.
They also proposed to hold the competition at two venues – Bashundhara Kings Arena of Bashundhara Sports Complex in Dhaka and Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan also known as Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
“The meeting is still on the table. Both sides verbally agreed to play but teams, schedule and format are yet to be confirmed,” a source on request of anonymity said.
