The 4th edition of Embassy Football Fest, an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), with an inaugural ceremony began at the Bashundhara Kings Arena of the Bashundhara Sports Complex on Friday (November 24).
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam inaugurated the event as the chief guest.
“I would like to thank them who have been organising this event successfully for the last four years, except for one year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Last time we arranged cricket, hopefully it will be organised again after the general election,” he said.
“Some countries that play here are currently restricted in the formal setting due to wars, but they are united here in an informal setting. I think it is the biggest achievement. Almost all the embassies are sports enthusiastic; they eagerly wait for this event,” Shahriar Alam added.
The MoFA has been organising this event with the aim of increasing solidarity in the diplomatic community and promoting friendlier relations among the embassies in the country since 2018.
This year, T Sports, the country’s lone sports channel, is organising the event where a total of 16 teams, including 14 embassies, the United Nations (UN), and hosts MoFA, are taking part.
