Mushfiqur Rahim has sent a legal notice to a local TV channel after it published a report that linked Rahim's obstructing the field dismissal to match-fixing. 

The report demanded Ekattor TV to delete the report from all social media and digital platforms, a telecast of a public apology, a press release with an apology and a written confirmation to Rahim that such incidents won't happen in the future. 

Veteran Bangladesh batter Mushfiqur Rahim has sent a legal notice to Bangladesh channel Ekattor TV after they published a report which linked Mushfiqur Rahim's handling the ball dismissal in the second Test against New Zealand to match-fixing. 

Supreme Court lawyer Shihab Uddin Khan sent the notice to Ekattor TV on behalf of Rahim. 

In the notice, Rahim asked Ekattor TV to delete the report from all social media and digital platforms, a telecast of a public apology, a press release with an apology and a written confirmation to Rahim that such incidents won't happen in the future. 

"The allegation and innuendo contained in the report is false and baseless and represent a shameful instance of yellow journalism and the publication of fake news," a press release from the player, read a release by Mushfiqur Rahim'.

Rahim was dismissed handling the ball in the first innings of the second Test against New Zealand. Rahim was batting on 35 when he tried to stop the ball with his hand and was given out obstructing the field. Rahim's brain fade moment left many in shock as the ball was nowhere close to the stumps. After the incident, the TV channel published a report and linked the dismissal to match-fixing.

"It is claimed that the report and its publication in the manner aforesaid, where it has been seen, accessed, and downloaded by countless millions throughout Bangladesh and the rest of the world, has lowered our client in the eyes and estimation of right-thinking people, and therefore constitutes criminal defamation punishable under Section 500 of the Penal Code, 1860 and cyber-bullying contrary to Sections 25(1)(Ka), 25(2) and 29 of the Cyber Security Act, 2023, besides entitling our client to proceed against you for exemplary damages as compensation by instituting civil legal action," the press release further read. Meanwhile, Bangladesh lost the second Test by 4 wickets as the series ended with a 1-1 scoreline.
