Bashundhara Kings stormed into the final of the ongoing ABG Bashundhara Federation Cup 2023-24 after they beat Abahani Limited Dhaka by 3-0 goals in a high-voltage second semifinal at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj on Tuesday.
Kings’ Brazilian skipper Robson Robinho opened the account for his side with a grounder, off a pass from forward Rakib Hossain in the 21st minute.
Kings storm into Fed Cup finalKings’ other Brazilian forward Dorielton Nascimento doubled the margin with a header, again off a cross from forward Rakib in the 71st minute while forward Md Ibrahim netted the third goal utilizing a defensive error in the injury time of the second half to confirm a big win.
Kings will play the final against Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd on 22 May at the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh. The final match was initially scheduled to be held on 21 May, but the date was deferred due to the upazila election in Mymensingh. With Tuesday’s win, the Bangladesh giants qualified for the Federation Cup final after two seasons.
Kings, who last won the Federation Cup crown in the 2020-21 season, didn’t participate in the 2021-22 edition and were knocked down by Mohammedan in the semifinal in the last edition.
The Bangladesh giants are now eyeing to win the domestic treble by securing the Fed Cup title.
Kings secured the season’s curtain raiser Independence Cup 2023-24 while they recently clinched the ABG Bashundhara Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2023-24 title.
