Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 78 runs on the fourth day of the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo today (June 28), securing a 1-0 victory in the two-match series.
Resuming on 128 for six, Bangladesh were bundled out for just 133 in 44.2 overs during the morning session, failing to mount any resistance as Sri Lanka completed a comprehensive win.
Left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya starred with the ball, claiming 5 for 56 after going wicketless in the first innings.
Skipper Dhananjaya de Silva and off-spinner Tharindu Ratnayake supported the effort with two wickets each.
Mushfiqur Rahim top-scored for the visitors with 26 runs, but none of the Bangladeshi batters managed to reach 30, as the team collapsed under sustained pressure from the Sri Lankan attack.
The result handed Sri Lanka crucial points in the ICC World Test Championship, while Bangladesh were left to rue a lacklustre batting performance that saw them lose the final Test by a wide margin.
The first Test of the series had ended in a draw.
