Cricket once again delivered high drama as Rangpur Riders clinched a heart-stopping one-run victory over Hobart Hurricanes in the Global Super League, thanks to Khaled Ahmed’s four-wicket haul and a composed final over from Azmatullah Omarzai.
Batting first at Providence, Rangpur posted 151 for 6, led by a 67-run knock off 42 balls from Kyle Mayers. Opener Ibrahim Zadran added 43 off 31 deliveries, while Azmatullah chipped in with 15.
Despite lacking a big partnership, Rangpur built a defendable total — and their bowlers made it count.
Hobart Hurricanes responded with a spirited chase, but Rangpur’s bowlers kept the pressure on. Khaled Ahmed emerged as the game-changer, taking 4 wickets to halt Hobart's momentum and earning the Player of the Match award.
The match reached a dramatic climax in the final over. Hobart needed 13 runs, and Rangpur entrusted Afghan pacer Omarzai with the ball.
The over began with a wide. On the next legal delivery, Mohammad Nabi struck a six. Usama then added two runs, raising the tension in the stadium.
With four balls remaining, Hobart required just four runs. But Omarzai held his nerve. On the fourth ball, Iftikhar Ahmed took a sharp catch to dismiss Nabi. Stanlake managed a single off the fifth delivery, leaving Hobart needing two to tie.
In a dramatic final moment, Usama attempted a second run, but a cool-headed throw from Iftikhar found Stanlake short at the non-striker’s end. Hobart were bowled out for 150, falling just one run short.
It was Rangpur’s second straight win in the tournament — and one that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very last ball.
