Former Bangladesh cricket captain and star opener Tamim Iqbal has confirmed that he will contest in the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections, putting an end to weeks of speculation.
Speaking to local media, Tamim said there was a “very good chance” of his candidacy.
“If you ask whether I will take part in the BCB election, I can say there is a strong possibility. This time I am contesting. I have invested in cricket, I am associated with two clubs, so I will be a councillor,” he explained.
The BCB presidency cannot be contested directly; candidates must first be elected as directors. Tamim is preparing to follow that path.
His decision comes against a backdrop of significant changes in BCB leadership.
Former president Nazmul Hassan Papon left the country after political shifts, while former captain Faruk Ahmed briefly served as president under the National Sports Council (NSC) quota before being removed over allegations of corruption and irregularities.
Another former captain, Aminul Islam Bulbul, who has been working with the International Cricket Council (ICC), is currently serving as BCB president.
The elections are expected to be held in October, with excitement already building in cricketing circles.
Tamim’s entry into the race is set to add fresh momentum, and the cricketing community is closely watching whether the long-serving opener can now make his mark in cricket administration.
