BD women cricketers reach Asiad semis

DHAKA: Bangladesh women cricket team on Wednesday beat Nepal by 81 runs in the 4th quarter-final and elevated to semi-finals in the 17th Asian Games.

Batting first, silver medalist Bangladesh women’s team had accumulated 107 runs by four wickets on the board, southasianmedia.net reports.

Nepal team won the toss and decided to field first. Bangladesh women cricket team played their first match against Nepal in the quarter-final of the Asian Games cricket held at Yeonhai Cricket ground, the report added.

Cricket was incorporated into the Asian Games in 2010. The Asian Games is the most prestigious event organized by the Olympic Council of Asia.

Ayesha made unbeaten 51 runs while Lata and Shahnaz contributed with 23 runs. Salma and Rumana took three wickets each.

Nepal had mustered 26 runs by 10 wickets in 15.3 over’s.

Bangladesh, who won a silver medal in women’s cricket four years ago in Guangzhou Asian Games, announced 20-member preliminary squad for the Korean meet.
