Ireland chasing Windies set 305-run

DHAKA: Irish batsmen are chasing West Indies-set a 305-run target in their World Cup 2015 opener at Nelson on Monday.

Ireland have scored 31 from none at the end of over-4.0.

Till filing the report, Paul Stirling    and William Porterfield are at the crease with 16 and 10 runs respectively.

Earlier, Ireland WTS Porterfield won the toss and invited West Indies to bat first.

LMP Simmons (102) DJG Sammy (89) helped West Indies to score 304 for seven.

For the first half of the innings West Indies faced trouble against a non-Test-playing nation.

But Sammy and Simmons pulled it back for the West Indies, and now they set a very formidable total.

Having received treatment on his back a day before the match, Sammy batted through the pain, scything vicious arcs with his bat, kept on punching the air with every shot even as he limped through for his runs, cursed himself audibly after mistiming one, hit nine fours and four sixes.
