Pakistan declare with 549-run lead

DHAKA: Pakistan declared their second innings after scoring 195 runs for six, taking their overall lead to 559 runs against Bangladesh on Day-3 at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.

In the innings, Mohammad Shahid had Mohammad Hafeez caught behind for the second time in the match, in the first over of this innings, before he returned after lunch to deliver another impressive spell.

Shahid struck again soon after resumption when he removed Sami Aslam, before Azhar Ali, a double-centurion in the first innings, became Soumya Sarkar’s first Test victim after making 25.

Besides, Soumya Sarkar, Taijul Islam, Mahmudullah and Shuvagata Hom begged one wicket each.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh, who resumed at the overnight score of 107-5, were bowled out for 203 in their first innings shortly before lunch.

Shakib Al Hasan was only batsman who scored half century for Bangladesh. He was not out on 89-run. Besides, Imrul Kayes, Mahmudullah, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim and Taijul Islam took 32, 28, 13, 12 and 15 runs respectively.

Injured Shahdat Hossain was ruled out of the match. Wahab Riaz and Yasir Shah took three wickets each while Junaid Khan picked up two and Mohammad Hafeez took one wicket.

Earlier, Pakistan batsmen made a huge total of 557-run, thanks to double ton by Azhar Ali and centuries by Younis Khan and Asad Shafiq. Azhar scored 226-run while Younis and Asad amassed 148 and 107 runs respectively.

Taijul Islam was the most successful bowler of Bangladesh. He picked up three wickets while Mohammad Shahid and Shuvagata Hom took two each. Shakib Al Hasan took the other Pakistan wicket.

On Wednesday, Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and decided to field first on the slightly grassy pitch.
 
Centuries from veteran Yunus Khan and Azhar Ali steered Pakistan to 325 runs after the end of first day’s play.
