DHAKA: Bangladesh beat visiting South Africa by 7 wickets with 22.3 overs to spare in their second One Day International and leveled the three-match series at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur in city Sunday.
Tigers scored 167-run losing three wickets in 27.4-over in response to 163-run target set by Proteas. This win also ensured Bangladesh’s qualification in the Champions Trophy in 2017.
A brilliant partnership of 135 runs between Soumya Sarker and Mahmudullah lead the team ashore. Soumya was adjudged player of the match for scoring unbeaten 88-run off 79-ball.
Mahmudullah and Litton Das amassed 50 and 17 runs. Kagiso Rabada took two wickets while Abbott grabbed one.
Earlier in the day, Proteas captain Hashim Amla won the toss and chose to bat in the day-night match that started at 3:00 local time (09:00 GMT).
From the beginning, Bangladesh bowlers dictated the terms of the South Africa’s innings. The Tigers bowled out South Africa for 162, the lowest against Bangladesh, in 46-over. Proteas batsmen never really got going in their innings and were rattled by regular wickets.
Mustafizur set the tone with zip and bounce before the spinners tightened the screws further. The left hand pacer ended up with 3 for 38-run in his 10-over.
Nasir Hossain also took three wickets while Rubel Hossain grabbed two, and Mashrafe Mortaza and Mahmudullah took one wicket each. Shakib Al Hasan could not take any wicket but conceded only 30-run in his 10-over.
Rubel Hossain replaced Jubair Hossain in the Bangladesh XI.
After their eight-wicket win in the first ODI on Friday, South Africa have not change in the XI.
For the first time since December 2011, Bangladesh were bowled out for less than 200 when batting first in an ODI. Their batting form was not all that good even in the India series, but they managed to get the job done.
