DHAKA: The third day's play in the second Test between Bangladesh and South Africa at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur has been called off due to rain on Saturday.

An entire day's play was lost without playing a single ball due to wet outfield caused by rain with the influence of cyclone Komen, which turned into land depression on Friday.

Earlier on Friday, incessant rain washed out the entire second day's play in the Test.

Bangladesh scored 246 runs losing eight wickets at stumps on Day-1 of the first inning after tiger captain Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and elected to bat first in the match.

Mushfiq 65, Mominul 40, Mahmudullah 35, Shakib 35 helped Tigers to make the score in 88.1 overs as Steyn and Duminy bagged three wickets each.

Nasir Hossain will start batting with 13 runs if play resumes.

Steyn became the second South African to get to the landmark, after Shaun Pollock.

Joint second-fastest in terms of Test matches, alongside New Zealand’s Richard Hadlee and behind Muttiah Muralitharan from Sri Lanka, to the mark, and fastest in terms of balls.

The first Test ended in a draw in Chittagong last week after bad weather washed out play on the last two days.
