DHAKA: After three successive washed-out days, the second Test match between the Bangladesh and South Africa played in Mirpur was called off due to wet outfield caused by couple of days’ rain.

As the outfield has taken too much water and has been rendered unfit for play, umpires decided to call off the Test match, despite clear weather on Monday morning.

Earlier, the second, third and fourth days’ play at the Shere Bangla National Stadium had been called off due to rain caused by aftereffects of cyclonic storm Komen.

Bangladesh scored 246 runs losing eight wickets at stumps on Day-1 of the first inning after tiger captain Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and elected to bat first in the match.

Mushfiq 65, Mominul 40, Mahmudullah 35, Shakib 35 helped Tigers to make the score in 88.1 overs as Steyn and Duminy bagged three wickets each.

Nasir Hossain was not out with 13 runs.

Steyn became the second South African to get to the landmark, after Shaun Pollock.

Joint second-fastest in terms of Test matches, alongside New Zealand’s Richard Hadlee and behind Muttiah Muralitharan from Sri Lanka, to the mark, and fastest in terms of balls.

The first Test ended in a draw in Chittagong last week after bad weather washed out play on the last two days.
