BPL 2015 Match #30 Barisal Bulls Vs Dhaka Dynamites played at SBNCS Dhaka on 10 December 2015
Barisal Bulls 137/8 ( Rayad Emrit 54*,Mehedi Maruf 37, Musharraf Hossain 3/29 , Nabil Samad 2/23) beat Dhaka Dynamites 136/6 ( Mosaddek 30* ,Mohammad Hafiz 25,Ryan ten Doeschate 22,Nikhil Dutta 3/18, Ryan Emrit 2/29) by 2 Wickets.
The last match of the first round could be much different if Sylhet Super Stars could win big against Comilla Victorians in the earlier match of the afternoon. But they lost big and got knocked out. The last match became an academic exercise.
Teams tried their bench strength resting their top dogs. Bulls prevailed over Dynamites in a keenly contested match by two wickets with 2 balls to spare. These two will confront each other in the eliminator again as they finished third and fourth in the elite group of four.
The top two Comilla Victorians and Rangpur Riders will be pitted against each other. The match could be very different if it turned out as do or die for Dynamites if the first match of the day turned out differently.
Dynamites rested Sangakkara and Mustafiz while Gayle had a day off with the Bulls. Batting first could crawl to 136/6 struggling against accurate off spin of Kuwait Born Canadian recruit Nikhil Dutta taking 3/18 and Caribbean pacer Emrit (2/29). 7 batsmen got in got out. If any of the top 5 could stay with Mosaddek (30*) batting at number 6 Dynamites could post more challenging score for the Bulls.
Players appeared relaxed as the challenges to qualifications no longer existed. Nikhil looked impressive on his debut. It will be interesting to observe whether Bulls risks him for the all-important eliminator.
Bulls in response could be losing the plot if Trinidad Tobgo bowling all-rounder Ryad Emrit did not play a blinder of an innings of unbeaten 54. His innings had 6 fours and 2 sixes. He came into bat in the 15 th over with Bulls looking vulnerable at 76/7.
Musharraf Rubel and Nabil Samad caused panic in the Bulls camp. In any case, the match went down to wire and was decided only in the 19.4 overs. Bulls won by 2 wickets but only just.
The curtain dropped on the first round with the following teams marching ahead.
Comilla Victorians, Rangpur Riders, Barisal Bulls and Dhaka Dynamites .The exit of two of the stronger teams Chittagong Vikings and Sylhet Super Stars evidenced that matches cannot be won consistently in any major tournament packing the team with superstars only. It takes lot of planning, well thought strategy and huge chunk of luck as well.
When the draws were made after players pick up very few thought Comilla Victorians would top the qualifying round. Very few gave Barisal Bulls any chance. But they did while much stronger sides on paper failed.
The umpiring was substandard as many ordinary decisions were given. Some matches raised some doubts from the ways these were played. The wickets were slow and low leaning heavily towards bowlers we believe the next round would witness all these ticked issues taken care.
