Bangladesh into semis beating Nepal

DHAKA: Bangladesh Under-19s have beaten Nepal Under-19s by six wickets with 10-ball to spare in the first Quarterfinal match of ICC Under-19 World Cup at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur of Dhaka on Friday (February 5).

This is the first time Bangladesh are into the semifinals of a world event.

Earlier, Nepal U-19s captain Raju Rijal won the toss and elected to bat first in the match that kicked off at 9:00 in the morning (Bangladesh time).

Tiger bowlers did not let them break free from the outset. Nepal U-19s managed to score 211-run losing nine wickets from their allocated 50-over.

Nepal’s Raju Rijal (72 off 80 balls) helped Nepal to build the fighting score. Besides, S Dhamala, DS Airee, P Tamang, Aarif Sheikh and K bhurtel scored 25, 22, 22, 21 and 14 runs respectively.

Of the Tiger bowlers,     Mohammad Saifuddin picked up two wickets while Mehedi Hasan Rana, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Saleh Ahmed Shawon took one wicket each. Four Nepal batsmen ran themselves out.

While chasing, Bangladesh U-19s faced early hiccups but an outstanding unbeaten fifth wicket partnership of 117-run between captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Zakir Hasan took the hosts ashore.

Bangladesh made 215-run losing four wickets from 48.2-over.

Zakir Hasan hit 75-run off 77-ball while Miraz took 55 runs off 65 balls. Besides, Joyraz Sheik and Pinak Ghosh took 38 and 32 runs respectively. Nazmul Hossain Shanto (8 off 6-ball) failed to score much in this match.

S Dhamala picked up two wickets while S Lamichhane took one. Pinak Ghosh was run out.
