Caribbean to face tigers in semis

DHAKA: West Indies Under-19s progressed into the semifinals of ICC Under-19 World Cup by beating Pakistan Under-19s by 5 wickets with 60 balls remaining in the quarterfinal match at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium at Fatullah in Narayanganj on Monday (February 8).

Winning the toss, Pakistan Under-19s captain Zeeshan Malik elected to bat first in the match that began at 9:00am.

Pakistan Under-19s scored 227 runs losing six wickets from their allocated 50-over quota. Umair Masood hit a blazing knock of 113 off 113 balls.

Besides, Salman Fayyaz’s 58 off 80 balls helped Pakistan build the fighting score.

West Indies’ CK Holder picked up two wickets while SK Springer, KMA Paul, RD John and AS Joseph took one wicket each.

West Indies Under-19s chased down the target of 228-run quite easily and enter into semifinals as the only non-Asian team. They scored 229-run losing five wickets in 40-over.

TA Imlach, SO Hetmyer, SK Springer, JU Goolie, GD Pope and KMA Paul scored 54, 52, 37, 26, 25 and 24 runs respectively.

Sameen Gul, Ahmad Shafiq and Shadab Khan took one wicket each.

West Indies youths will face host Bangladesh Under-19s in the semifinals while India take on Sri Lanka.
