Mashrafe made UN goodwill ambassador

DHAKA: Bangladesh national cricket ODI captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza has been appointed as Untied Nations (UN) goodwill ambassador in sports.

Bangladesh, led by Mashrafe, has overseen an unprecedented run of success for the side, starting in November 2014.

During the time, Bangladesh won ODI series at home against Pakistan, India, South Africa, and twice against Zimbabwe, and got to the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time in their history.

Under the leadership of Mashrafe, Bangladesh secured their place at the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy after beating South Africa in their second one-day international last year.

The eight-team event will feature hosts England plus the top seven other teams in the International Cricket Council's ODI rankings on 30 September this year.

Mashrafe along with his team, now, is working hard for the Asia Cup that will commence in Dhaka on February 24, ahead of the World T20 in India in March.
