India beat Bangladesh by 45-run

DHAKA: India beat Bangladesh by 45-run in the Asia Cup opener at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur in city on Wednesday (February 24).

Earlier, winning the toss, Tiger captain Mashrafe Mortaza invited India to bat first on a greenish track.

Bangladesh bowlers did a fairly good job at the start. After the first 15-over, India scored only 97 runs losing four wickets. But, later, Rohit Sharma cut loose and hit a blazing 83-run off 55-ball.

India scored 166-run losing six wickets from their 20-over quota. Alongside Rohit, H Pandya’s 31-run off 18-ball helped India to score that much.

Al-Amin Hossain took three wickets while Mashrafe, Mahmudullah and Shakib Al Hasan took one wicket each.

In response, Bangladesh managed to score 121-run losing seven wickets from their 20-over.

Sabbir Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahim, Taskin Ahmed, Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarkar scored 44, 16, 15, 14 and 11 runs respectively.

A Nehra picked up three wickets while Bumrah, Pandya and Ashwin took one wicket each.

Bangladesh need to win the next three matches against Pakistan, Sri Lanka and UAE to make it to final.
