DPL Sets Off For Business Session

DHAKA: Dhaka Premier League, the List-A cricket tournament of Bangladesh sets off to its business session with six top teams all having fair chance of winning the 2016 top honors.

Many would agree that had not many major controversies marred this year’s event the keenly contested league this year could see a bit different composition in super six.

Choosing controversial umpires, diabolic umpiring at critical time favoring particular team influenced the outcome of few matches.

The venues were changed for favoring the favored team and even in the last match no effort was made to prepare a particular ground after rain favoring a team getting away with one point from an abandoned match in saving relegation.

All these were widely criticized in print and electronic media of Bangladesh. From a media interaction of BCB president it appears that these incidents with credible evidence have been reported to ICC.

The reaction of BCB President could not also conclude his neutrality in such circumstances.

Anyway the tussle between bat and ball was very even with most of the top national players excepting few playing consistently well.

Some bright upcoming youngsters also matured. The wickets were mostly unresponsive. Yet bowlers also fared well.

VSC = Victoria Sporting Club
MSC= Mohammedan Sporting Club
PDSC= Prime Dolleswar Sporting Club
AKC= Abahoni Krira Chakra
LOR = Legend of Rupganj
PBCC = Prime Bank Cricket Club

The above table evidences that only 3 points separates the top and the bottom team with 4 teams having the same points.

The super league is expected to be keenly contested as well. If similar controversial umpiring and other decisions do not favor any team the tournament would remain wide open with any of the top six running away with the top honors.
We understand one club has submitted a written complaint against CCDM to BCB president alleging biased operation of league. As discussed earlier there has been reporting to ICC. But instead of conducting a fair enquiry it was not right for BCB President reacting to media about some matches.

This rather exerting his position as neutral judge established his utter biasness to a particular club run by a business house which is incidentally his employer.

DPL is a List A cricket tournament of BCB. It is the breeding ground of Bangladesh Cricket and only major earning opportunity of bread and butter for professional cricketers.

Given the important juncture of Bangladesh cricket it is not too much to expect absolute neutrality of BCB. But instead several BCB directors from the very outset were nakedly favoring a particular club.

Media reportedly regularly about deliberate mistakes of some chosen umpires favoring some clubs. When that chosen club was not performing according to evil design the venue was changed to suit them.

In particular match when that team was losing a major mistake was made in not giving a batsman run out which favored the team winning from a very tight situation. Had not that happened the favored team may not have qualified.

This year most of the leading players played to their abilities both with bat and the ball. Mashrafee was a revelation, Mahmudullah, Mushfique, Mominul Haq, Tamim, Nasir all   played well.

Some fringe players like Shamsur Rahman, Shahriar Nafees and Namul Huq also played well. Imtiaz, Al Amin (batsman) Musaddek, Shanto also matured.

Jubayer started well but as wickets became dead he could not remain consistent. Shakib got back into form upon return from an ordinary IPL season. Shoumya and Shabbir were disappointing.

Mustahfiz is a MSC player. He is not being allowed to play and to justify this he is also not being allowed to let go for playing for his county Sussex in England.

His condition must not be as bad at which he played the final of IPL. Ironically present MSC management is not insisting.

Weather favoring and umpiring remaining fair each of the super league matches is expected to witness mouth-watering contest.

We hope BCB will do everything possible to police CCDM remaining above controversy.
