Ashraful ban on domestic cricket lifted

DHAKA: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officially lifted the ban on Mohammad Ashraful from domestic cricket on Saturday (August 13).

Ashraful was initially banned for eight years for his involvement in fixing matches in the scandal-hit Bangladesh Premier League in 2013.

Later, the BCB, in response to an appeal of Ashraful, the ban was reduced to five years from eight.

His participation in cricket is still in question though the ban has been lifted. Moreover, the board has already sent a letter to International Cricket Council (ICC) in this regards.

BCB chief executive Nizam Uddin Chowdhury Sujan said Ashraful would be able to join domestic cricket after getting the “Certificate of Good Conduct” from ICC.

But, he would be barred from franchise-based cricket such as BPL, he added.
