BCB terminates contract with Kalpage

DHAKA: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) sacked Ruwan Kalpage, the assistant coach of Bangladesh cricket team, after he had failed to report to work by August 16 (Tuesday).

Confirming the matter, BCB Media committee chairman Jalal Yunus said “We had sent him a letter asking to return to work by August 16, but he did not respond to us. This is why the BCB has terminated his contract”.

Earlier on August 17, BCB’s chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury said that the board would take actions against Kalpage as he has not returned within the deadline of August 16.

Kalpage had decided to leave Bangladesh after the attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka on July 1.

Meanwhile, BCB has provided security cover to the head coach Chandika Hathurusingha, fielding coach Richard Halsall and strength and conditioning coach Mario Villavarayan, who all reported to work this month.

After the completion of two-year contract, Kalpage had been given an extension to work with the Bangladesh unit the World Cup 2019.
