Bangladesh origin Russian wins Olympic gold

DHAKA: Bangladesh-origin Russian Margarita Mamun won gold in rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around at the Rio Olympic Arena.

Margarita’s performance outscored the three-time world champion and fellow Russian Yana Kudryavtseva with score of 76.483.

The result gave Russia its fifth consecutive gold medal in the event.

Three-time world champion Yana Kudryavtseva rolled over on the floor ready to catch it as she went to strike her final pose after throwing the club high into the air but missed.

That error knocked a distraught Kudryavtseva, who was leading at the halfway point of the competition, off the top and she settled for silver with a total of 75.608.

Born in Moscow, Russia to a Bengali father Abdullah Al Mamun and Russian mother Anna, Margarita Mamun achieved title “The Bengal Tigress” from her main couch.

Margarita’s mother Anna is a former rhythmic gymnast and she has one younger brother named Filipp Al Mamun.

She is the current world record holder of 2016 Baku World Cup under the 20-point judging system with the highest All-around total of 77.150 points.
