DHAKA: Banglanews24.com beat Samakal in the tie-breaker to claim their second consecutive victory in Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Media Cup Football on Tuesday (August 30).
The game at Shaheed (Captain) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in city’s Bangabandhu National Stadium went to tie-breaker when both the teams failed to score in the allotted 20-minute.
Banglanews managed to score three from five shots while conceding only one goal to their opponent.
Banglanews’ goalkeeper Sherajul Islam Shiraj, first match’s hero SM Salahuddin and guest player Mesbah-ul-Hoque hit the target.
Shiraj also saved three crucial penalty-shoot outs which brought him the player of the match award.
A total of 34 national dailies along with other news agencies, online and broadcasting media are participating in the tournament this year.
Champion team will get TK 40,000 while the runner-up team Tk 20,000 along with their respective trophies.
Moreover, there will be a fair play trophy for the most disciplined team.
Besides, player of the tournament and the highest scorer will get trophies and TK 5,000 each.
The final is scheduled to be held on September 1.
