Bangladesh women team wins ODI series

DHAKA: Bangladesh women cricket team’s Rumana became the first player to claim a hat-trick for the country, securing the One Day International (ODI) series in Belfast against Ireland.

The leg-spinner’s tremendous bowling made sure Bangladesh to win the second ODI by 10 runs and secure the series by 1-0.

In the second one, Bangladesh batted first after winning the toss and was bowled out for 106 runs at 40.1 overs.

Sanjida Islam scored top with 33 runs while skipper Jahanara made 14.

Amy Kinley claimed four wickets for Ireland.

Irish players started their innings quite strongly with fine batting. At one point, they needed 55 runs with 8 wickets to go. Bangladesh turned the match from there.

Unfortunately, off-spinner Khadizatul Kubra missed a hat-trick opportunity. Rumana took over from there and returned three Irish players to pavilion trapping them in leg behind the wicket.

Joyce topped the score with 35 runs while Dilani made 26.

Rumana was awarded as the player of the match with three wickets. Fahim and Kubra claimed two wickets each.

However, the first ODI was abandoned due to rain.

Bangladesh lost the two match T-20 series by 1-0. The ODI series has made the team comfortable and it will help restore their confidence.
